Open Doors Workplace Project

Open Doors is a workplace based project run by East Sussex County Council and supported by Skills East Sussex. School pupils across East Sussex are given the chance to visit workplaces and hear from employers about the range of jobs that you offer, and the career paths into them.

This gives pupils essential knowledge and experience to shape their own futures and provides employers with the opportunity to engage with young people who could form their future workforce. Businesses have offered apprenticeships, work experience placements, and built relationships with local schools.

Mental Health First Aid Training

ForrestHR are running a 2 day Mental Health First Aid course with West Kent Mind on Tuesday 19th and Tuesday 26th November. The course will be held at Basepoint, Crowborough and lunch will be provided on both days, the course will run 9.30am to 5.30pm and costs just £210.00 per person for the 2 days.

This course is perfect for Business Owners, Office Managers, Managers, HR Professionals and most general staff too. Mock Interview day at Heathfield Community College

All of Heathfield Community College Year 13 (about 150 students) will have a 15-20 minute interview between 9am and 3 pm on the Thursday 28th November,

Hospices of Hope is holding its first ever cocktail making event in Bar Trend, Crowborough on Thursday 5th December at 7pm.
Learn how to create perfect cocktails in time for Christmas. Caroline from Bar Trend will demonstrate her talent at mixology by making two different cocktails and then guests will have the chance to try their hands at creating their own cocktail.

Beacon Student Career Interviews

The “life after Beacon” workshop, which Chamber members have been involved in over recent years, will be held at Beacon Academy on Tuesday 5th November. The objective of the day is to energise students on what they need to do to set them up for the future, with a specific focus on helping the students gain an insight into the world of work (developing employment skills) through mock interviews and an employer based talk.

Beacon is therefore looking for at about 4-6 employers to interview the students and provide feedback, the interviews are expected to be held between 12.00 and 1.30 pm.

Objective of mock interviews for students
· To understand the need to develop and demonstrate the required employability skills (defined as Enthusiasm, Passion, Potential, Commitment, Positive Mental Attitude, Social Skills, Dress Sense/Appearance, Resilience, Adapting to Change, Communication)
· To experience the process, what is required in the outside world, and what it takes to be successful (research, appearance, appetite for the job).

What does the student experience?
15 minute interview with 5 minute feedback, 5 minute wrap up/note taking.

Hospices of Hope

Monday 25th November at 12 noon.

Tickets cost £35 and include a drink on arrival, a two-course lunch with a glass of wine, coffee and mints.

Plantsman Tom Hart Dyke is the special guest speaker.  He will talk about growing up at Lullingstone Castle in Kent, his time in captivity in Colombia and fulfilling his dream of creating a World Garden!

Funds raised at the event help support hospice care in south east Europe.

Crowborough Town Christmas Fair

Crowborough’s Christmas Fair, organised by the Town Council, is scheduled to take place on Friday 22nd November.

The Fair will start at 4.00pm and will finish at approximately 6.00pm when the Christmas lights will be switched on by a celebrity from this years’ Tunbridge Wells Panto. There will be a road closure in place from 1.00pm and stall holders will have staggered access to their stalls from 2.00 - 3.00pm onwards.

Stalls will be available to businesses at £15.00 per stall and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
